MAKING AN OFFICIAL COMPLAINT

If you would like Fair Trading to investigate your complaint you need to lodge it in writing to the Office.

Remember - the Office cannot handle all consumer complaints, for example where:
  • a consumer has not made a reasonable attempt to resolve the matter with the trader first;
  • the matter is being handled under the law by other authorities (e.g. health, tax);
  • goods or services are bought for business purposes;
  • a dispute exists between two traders;
  • legal action has commenced;
  • goods are not normally used for personal, domestic or household use (e.g. a tractor); or
  • goods and services are advertised and purchased outside the ACT.

You should send a letter to the

Office of Regulatory Services, Fair Trading
GPO Box 158
CANBERRA ACT 2601

and attach copies of any receipts, or supporting documentation to assist in our investigation.
