Consumer and Trader Tribunal (CATT)

The Consumer and Trader Tribunal was created to coincide with the introduction of the Security Industry Act 2003 and the Agents Act 2003.

The Tribunal is a forum that reviews decisions made under the above two Acts and makes decisions about disciplinary actions against licensees covered by the Acts.

The ACT Office of Regulatory Services provides secretariat services to the following boards and committees.

Liquor Licensing Board

The Liquor Licensing Board is established under the Liquor Act 1975.

The Board's main functions include:

  • determining contentious applications for liquor licences;
  • conducting hearings into allegations of breaches of the Liquor Act; and
  • ensuring licensed premises, licensees and the sale of liquor in the ACT are of the highest standard which reflect the desires of the community and ACT Government.

Fair Trading Advisory Committee

The Fair Trading Advisory Committee is responsible for advising the government and the Commissioner for Fair Trading on issues affecting the interests of consumers and unfair commercial practices affecting traders.

Other Committees

The codes of practice under the Fair Trading Act 1992 all contain code administration committees.

The following committees are responsible for administering the respective codes and for providing advice to the Minister about the operation of the codes:
