FAIR TRADING & THE ICRC
Fair Trading assists and protects the community through the administration of Fair Trading legislation and the registration and compliance of businesses in specific industries. The main objective of the Office is to provide information to consumers to make them informed and confident when making purchases. The Office's general enquiry number is 6207 0400.
The Office maintains very close links with the business community and assists businesses to conduct their trading in a way that reduces the likelihood of consumers experiencing problems or difficulties.
Independent Competition and Regulatory Commission
The Independent Competition and Regulatory Commission is a statutory body set up to regulate prices, access to infrastructure services and other matters in relation to regulated industries and to investigate competitive neutrality complaints and government-regulated activities. The Commission also has responsibility for licensing utility services and ensuring compliance with licence conditions.
Auzshare Disclaimer - The ACT Office of Fair Trading participates in Auzshare, a secure, web-based alerts and information-sharing initiative of Australian and New Zealand fair trading agencies. Auzshare's purpose is to ensure that key information about cross-State and other significant consumer fraud activities is accessible to participating enforcement agencies, helping them improve enforcement outcomes.
Information collected from complaints lodged with, and from investigations undertaken by agencies may be shared with other participating fair trading agencies. Information that is shared will remain the property of the original agency and will be available for confidential use only.
Information being entered into the Auzshare database will conform to the Federal Privacy Act 1988 and be consistent with that Act's Information Privacy Principles.
